REVIEW: I couldn’t resist. After my success with “Gorilla Weekend” I headed over to the Fab-Mart Grocery Colony on Prescott to see what treasures their VHS bin might hold. What fortune! I can’t believe I found “Scavenger Race”. I hadn’t seen this gem in years. It is my favorite buddy flick of all time.
Paul Provenza was great on “Northern Exposure” when he replaced that fiend, Rob Morrow and I wouldn’t exaggerate if I said that Christopher Lambert has the Midas touch when it comes to movies. Throw in the sultry Madchen Amick and gravitas of Larry Drake and for one hundred minutes, you are going to forget all your troubles (which is good, because I got phone call from the assistant manager of the Fab-Mart Grocery Colony on Lincoln and he told me that I am banned from the store for a month for not paying for my Cheez-Whips. He told me he could cut it down to a week, if I came over and crushed cardboard boxes for an afternoon. I will probably do that).
I don’t want to spoil the plot of the movie because it is full of just as many twists and turns as the actual race itself. I will say that it features my favorite car all of all time, a 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT. They really put that car through its paces. Sure beats riding the bus.
There is some cursing by some of the bad guys and “Scavenger Race” might be too sexy for young people because Madchen Amick does one scene in a sports bra and sweats, so be warned parents. For grown ups, it’s going to be a fun ride. So buckle up, put on your shades and set your sights on entertainment.
