After unexpected enormous success following its first DVD set, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, the most popular show on Adult Swim, released its second DVD volume on July 20, 2004.
Unfortunately, due to contractual disputes with guest stars, there is only one episode on this DVD set, and they had to skip from the beginning of the 1996 season all the way to the first episode of 2003, Baffler Meal. Because of the fact that there is only one episode on this two DVD set, they had to pad it with a lot of bonus features.
Baffler Meal is a great episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast wherein Space Ghost encounters the "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", a team of a cup, a box of fries, and a wad of meat, in part of a cross-promotional stunt with the Burger Trench restaurant. Highlights include the interview with Willie Nelson and the performance by the Colonial Man Band. This is a very funny episode that all Space Ghost fans should enjoy!
But, as mentioned, it's the ONLY episode, and curiously, it's on the second disc. There are also lots of bonus features. Baffler Meal includes a commentary by the writers, as well as a deleted scene. The deleted scene is great; it features Colonial Man, a great throwback for Space Ghost fans! There is a music video for Baffler Meal, and two featurettes. Future Wolf II is a comedic sketch that illustrates the origins of the Baffler Meal episode. Future Wolf III is a collection of storyboards and sketches of Baffler Meal. An earlier incarnation of the episode featured Space Ghost and the Aqua Teen Hunger Force fighting a giant metal rabbit!
Baffler Meal was definitely the focus of the DVD set, as it's the only episode on the whole DVD, so the box art and menus very heavily feature the Aqua Teen Hunger Force. As a bonus, this DVD contains about a dozen episodes of a show starring the Aqua Teen Hunger Force. These are pretty funny! I didn't watch all of them though. It's a shame they put all this filler on the DVD instead of more episodes of Space Ghost, but I guess they wanted to get this DVD out as soon as possible. But if you like Baffler Meal, then this DVD is a great buy; it's just unfortunate that Space Ghost is so poorly represented on his own DVD.
