Family Guy Volume One DVD Review

Written by Esuohlim

The Griffins seem like perfectly normal New England family. There's Peter, the fat, self-centered father. Lois, the mother who always has to put up with her husband's crap. Chris, the overweight eldest son. Meg, the plain and depressed teenage daugheter. And Stewie, the one-year-old toddler who attempts to kill his own mother and take over the world. They also have a dog, Brian, who talks and no one asks how. Put them all together and hilarity ensues as they stumble into some strange situations, such as Peter crashing into the city's cable satellite, or the world blows up from the Y2K bug. Nonetheless, you'll be sticking by the family's side and...you know what? This is starting to suck. I'll just actually review the DVD set now.

Family Guy is a great TV show that was sadly cancelled in February 2002. You can thank FOX for that one. They only made 50 episodes (one of them wasn't aired because they were afriad it would offend JEWS!). But, since April 15th, 2003, you could once again enjoy the show on DVD. Well, the first 28 episodes anyway, and what 28 epiodes they were! The first season and the second season are combined in the wonderful four-disk set. Special features include Television Promos for Season 1, a Behind the Scenes Featurette (which is only a pitiful four minutes long), and commentaries from writers and producers in 8 of the episodes. And the commentaries are as funny as the episodes themselves sometimes. Like when Seth MacFarlane's cell phone went off. Good times, good times...

Anyway, the video and audio are in good quality. There are some spots (and it may just be my DVDs) where it will suddenly freeze, and will start up again in about 10 seconds, which gets pretty damn annoying. There's also some quivering, pixelated animation sometimes in backgrounds that take some getting used to. And it takes fucking forever for the DVDs to start up because of the warnings and the notices about how the expressions in the commentaries are not affiliated with FOX, and the FOX logo...you know what? FOX sucks.

Anyway, in conclusion, it's a must have for any Family Guy fan. Even if you don't like Family Guy, you should buy it anyway because it's $40 for 28 episodes and it's a damn good deal. Also, Volume 2 Season 3 comes out in September 9th 2003, so be sure to pick that one up too when it comes out. Remember, you heard it from Esuohlim first...or not. Whatever.
