True Life: My Dad is a Star Wars Nerd

This article is simply a tribute page to the greatest thing ever to air in the history of MTV- True Life: My Dad is a Star Wars Nerd. That's not what it was really called, it was actually called something like True Life: My Parents Are Embarassing Me. Also it had three seperate stories, one was about a kid whose parents owned a nudist colony and the 15-year-old girl he had a crush on sunbathed nude there, one was about a dad who used to drum for Billy Joel or Roy Orbison or The Eagles or fuck if I know, and the last one (the best one) was about a boy whose dad was a Star Wars nerd.

The boy had to be at least in his 20's, so you can imagine how old the Star Wars nerd dad must have been. The dad had a basement full of Star Wars crap, from Taco Bell cups to action figures to whatever else has Jar Jar Binks's face on it. He even had a customized clock that counted down to Episode II (or I? I don't know). In one particularly poignant part of the special, he tells the story of how his mom took him to see Star Wars for the first time, and starts crying.

The son on the other hand is the exact opposite of his dad. He's into working out, football, hunting, and just every single stereotype you would give that type of redneck dumbass. Because you see, the more he rebels against his dad and asserts his independence, the more he distances himself from his nerdy embarassing dad.

So, their story is that the dad is trying to convince his son to go to the annual Star Wars convention with him. "Oh come on son, you don't have to dress up, but if you like the convention and decide you want to, then you can." The son is all tough guy, saying "No way, I don't do nerdy things like dress up at conventions, I'm not gonna."

Anyway, I think some other stuff happens, and the two of them end up going to the convention together. Dad is all dressed up like Luke Skywalker, or some Jedi. The son gets into the spirit and decides to dress up. BUT... instead of dressing like a good Jedi like his dad, he dresses like a Stormtrooper. That's right, he joined the dark side so as not to lose his "rebellious" edge against his dad. At that point I literally couldn't believe what I was watching. It was just incredible.

So this is the second MTV-based article I've written in a row. Jesus, this is like the worst thing I ever wrote. But seriously, True Life: My Dad is a Star Wars Nerd rules. If it ever comes on, watch it and you'll realize how much it ruled. And you'd watch it because I made you aware of it, and then this article would be all worth it.

Next time I'll write something funny, really.
