Gay T-shirts are teh s uck
If you've watched at least two seconds of Adult Swim in the past several weeks, odds are you've seen them plugging some kind of merchandise, be it the Adult Swim Style Box, the shirts, buttons and stickers from Hot Topic, or an official "cus anime is teh s uck" t-shirt. If you find Fooly Cooly entertaining, odds are you think it would be the kewlest thing to wear a t-shirt like that. On the other hand, if you're all-the-way-hetero like me, you think that shirt sucks balls.
Here's how much I hate the "cus anime is teh s uck" shirts: Cartoon Network used a national TV spot to personally ask me-- by name-- to buy the shirt, and I still don't want it at all. They even offered me a rough cut of the upcoming Space Ghost episode that will feature William Shatner, and I still don't want it. People who know me know that Space Ghost Coast to Coast and William Shatner are my two favorite things in the world, but I won't buy that shirt for it. I can't imagine a situation in which I'd ever be glad to own that shirt. It's not the money, as Bobo said, I'd gladly pay $20 plus shipping and handling for a rough cut of William Shatner on Space Ghost, but only if they don't send me the shirt.
Don't get me wrong, I don't not want the shirt because I disagree with the sentiment, I would love to walk around a comic book convention or something like that wearing a shirt that proudly displays my hatred for anime. But I wouldn't want to wear the "cus anime is teh s uck" shirt, for two reasons. The first reason is that I'd feel like a fucking jackass wearing it. I might as well go to Hot Topic and get an "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" shirt and look like just as much a go-tard. The second reason it would be worthless to wear that shirt to piss off anime fans is because anyone douchebaggy enough to get pissed off at someone making fun of anime probably already watches Adult Swim, and if they saw me in a "cus anime is teh s uck" shirt, they'd get it, they'd probably think it was funny, resulting in anime nerds not getting pissed off which would result in ME getting pissed off. If I really wanted to piss off anime fans with a shirt, I'd just take a plain white t-shirt, and with sharpie write on it something like "Anime and its nerdy retarded loser fans can blow me".
I have nothing else funny to say on this topic. The point is, those shirts are fucking retarded, not unlike the bumpers they're based on. I wouldn't wipe my dog's ass with that shirt. There's nothing "cool" or "geek-chic" about a t-shirt with internet lingo on it. There's nothing unique about any t-shirt. Unless you printed it yourself, odds are that no matter what shirt you wear, no matter how obscure the reference is, if it's available in any kind of store, there are at least a hundred nerds just like you who own it.
